Jamboree Themes
The three themes chosen for the World Scout Jamboree 2011 are Meeting; Nature; and Solidarity
To work with the themes and to create a connection with the participants preparing for the Jamboree not just within the ICCS faith and belief area but also the Liturgical activities, we are proposing to use the traditional Christian/ Catholic terms closely associated with the themes.
Theme 1: Meeting and Community,
“Love of neighbour, grounded in love of God, is first and foremost responsibility of each individual member of the faithful, but it is also a responsibility for the entire community at every level: from local community to particular church community, to the Global Church community. As a community, the church, the people of God must practise love.”
Encyclical Letter - Deus Caritas Est [20], Pope Benedict XVI
Theme 2: Nature and Care of God‟s Creation,
“The earth is essentially a common inheritance the fruit of which should be for the benefit of all. „God designed the earth and all it contains for all people.”
Second Vatican Council reaffirmed (Gaudium et Spes 69).
Theme 3: Solidarity - Solidarity
“Solidarity is not a feeling of vague compassion or shallow distress at the misfortunes of so many people both far and near. On the contrary, it is a firm and persevering determination to commit oneself to the common good”; that is to say the good of all and each individual because we are all responsible.”
Sollicitudo Rei Socialis, John Paul II
These themes allow for ‗Join-in‘ participation for all ICCS member contingents and we propose that ‗Simply Scouting - Simply the Spirit‟ to be managed in three phases.
